Survey Assignment (Due April 11)

(A) The purpose of the assignment is to collect sample data from a population and analyze it using methods from this course.

(B) You may work alone or with a partner.

(C) This assignment will be 20 of the 60 points in Journals, Issues for Learning. It will also replace 30 of your 70 homework points, if this improves your homework grade.

You should do the following.

(1) Decide what question you wish to answer by conducting the survey. (Research Question)

(2) Collect your data. What is your population, how are you choosing your sample? What king of sampling are you doing? Explain. Are there any ways in which your sample could be biased?

(3) Analyze your data. Use as many different methods as you can. Include appropriate plots, graphs, measures of central tendency.

(4) Answer your research question and justify your answer using your supporting analysis in (3).

(5) Decide how much you can trust your conclusion in (4). Explain why you can or cannot be certain of your conclusion.

Your report should be about 2-4 pages including all data, plots, etc. Due on Friday, April 11.
