Born in Austin Texas in 1955, the family moved to Auburn Alabama in 1959 where my father Ben took a teaching position in the Mathematics Dept. at Auburn University. My mother Margie eventually gained her Ph. D. in mathematics at Auburn but taught most of her professional career at Tuskegee University.

I graduated from Auburn High School in 1974 and went travelling with a rock and roll band. My primary instruments were keyboards, and I eventually ended up working the clubs in the panhandle of Florida and in coastal Alabama. In 1986 at the age of 30 I quit playing music professionally and moved to Auburn to attend school at the University. Graduating in 1992 with a bachelor's degree in mathematics, I soon found a job in the Cataloging Dept. of Auburn University Libraries. I have been with the Libraries ever since.
