Dr. Boulton is the C.G. Mills Professor of Strategic Management in the College of Business at Auburn University. His research is focused on Global, Technology-based Competition. Dr. Boulton was Visiting Professor at Germany's premier executive development institute, Universitatsseminar der Wirtschaft at Schloss Gracht, in Erftstadt during 1999. He was a Visiting Scholar at the prestigious Institute for Fiscal and Financial Policy of Japan's Ministry of Finance in 1993. He has also been Visiting Professor at Keio Business School in Japan in 1992, 1993, and 2001 where he was also hosted as a Fulbright Research Scholar in 1986. Since 1992, he has conducted a number of research studies for U.S. government agencies on electronic manufacturing technologies and industrial development policies of Asian countries. The studies he edited include Electronic Manufacturing and Packaging in Japan (1995), and Semiconductor and Electronic Manufacturing in the Pacific Rim (1997), and Information Technologies in the Development Strategies of Asia (1999). Dr. Boulton also chaired and edited the Electronic Manufacturing in Hong Kong and China study for the International Technology Research Institute in 2000. Dr. Boulton is author of numerous articles and cases covering topics of competitive strategy, technology and innovation management, boards of directors, and strategic planning. He also developed The Resource Guide for the Management of Innovation and Technology for the AACSB in 1993, and wrote a case and textbook, Business Policy: The Art of Strategic Management in 1984. Mills Professor of Strategic Management. He teaches courses in Strategic Management and Strategic Management of Technology and Innovations. He has developed a variety of cases for use in these courses. Dr. Boulton served as Director of The Center for International Commerce from1990 to1994, where he conducted research activities on the Pulp and Paper Industry, developed educational programs on Quality Manufacturing Techniques, and established academic interchange activities with Nippon University in Japan. UNIVERSITATSSEMINAR der WIRTSCHAFT - SCHLOSS GRACHT (1999) ERFSTADT Dr. Boulton was visiting professor at Germany's leading executive development institute under the sponsorship of the Peter Curtius Foundations for USW. He taught executives and developed cases for the institute over a six month period. THE UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA (1977-1990) ATHENS Dr. Boulton joined The University of Georgia in 1977 where he was Professor of Strategic Management. He taught courses in Business and Competitive Strategy, International Business Strategy, and Innovation and Technology Management. He directed 12 dissertations relating to boards of directors, small business and new venture management, competitive strategies to foreign competition, technology transfer, and high technology start-ups. Dr. Boulton served as Director of Graduate Programs in the College of Business Administration from 1980 to 1985. He revised all graduate programs and introduced The University of Georgia's nationally recognized MBA program. Georgia's MBA program is ranked by Business Week magazine as one of the top 40 MBA programs in the United States and as one of the top-ten best MBA buys. JAPAN'S MINISTRY OF FINANCE (1992) TOKYO Dr. Boulton received a grant from Institute for Fiscal and Financial Policy (a part of Japan's Ministry of Finance) to study the policy setting and budgeting process for science and technology in Japan. Research included working with the Science and Technology Agency and the Ministry of International Trade and Industry. An article was published with JAI press is entitled, The Evolution of Japan's Science and Technology Policy. KEIO UNIVERSITY'S BUSINESS SCHOOL (1986, 1992, 1993, 2001) YOKOHAMA Dr. Boulton was Resident Scholar and Fulbright Research Fellow in 1986, while carrying out extensive research on Japan's robotics and factory automation industries. This work investigated the competitive strategies of Japanese automobile and electronics firms in developing advanced technologies for automation needs. This resulted in a JAI publication entitled, Japan's Competitive Strategy: The Move from Technology to Technopolis. In 1992 and 1993, Dr. Boulton was a Visiting Professor at Japan's leading business school, Keio Graduate School of Business Administration, where he develop technology management cases on Japanese companies. This research resulted in the development of Metamorph, Hitachi Corporation, Compaq Computer Corporation, and Sharp Corporation cases. While at Keio, Dr. Boulton also taught a seminar on the Management of Innovation and Technology to MBA students. THE SCHOOL FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES (1986, 1992 and 1993) TOKYO Dr. Boulton has been a professor at Japan's leading executive development program, where he taught courses in Strategic Management, Global Competitive Strategies, and Management of Innovation and Technology. THE GEORGIA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (1985) ATLANTA Dr. Boulton was Visiting Professor and conducted a special MBA seminar on Advanced Business Strategies. OTHER POSITIONS Founding Editor, Case Research Journal (1981-1985). Dr. Boulton established and edited the Case Research Journal for the North American Case Research Association. OTHER PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE (Top) WILLIAM R. BOULTON & ASSOCIATES, INC. (1981-present) ATHENS Dr. Boulton conducts executive education and consults with senior executives in areas of Boards of Directors, Strategic Planning, Business Strategy and Innovation and Technology Management. He has worked with Deltacom and Index Technologies in developing applications for new knowledge capturing software in the areas of strategic planning and technology management. He is working with major corporations in developing global technology strategies to deal with global competition. GTE INTERNATIONAL, INC. (1972-1974) TOKYO/HONG KONG Dr. Boulton was Manager of Market Development for the Far East and served as GTE's representative and liaison for two joint ventures in Japan. He was involved in negotiations, joint-venture agreements, organization, staffing, and marketing and production management. He oversaw process controls and cost accounting systems, planning for new production facilities and equipment, product planning and marketing programs, and major corporate reorganizations. SINGER CORPORATION (1970-1971) TOKYO/TAIPEI/BANGKOK Dr. Boulton carried out research regarding management and marketing problems in Japan, Taiwan and Thailand.
