Spotlight Interview

Luke Damian is a junior majoring in chemical engineering. He is from Huntsville, and during his time at Auburn he has been involved in Auburn IMPACT, Auburn Catholic Student Organization and College Republicans.

Why did you choose Auburn?

I chose Auburn because both of my parents graduated from Auburn, and I enjoyed going to the football games growing up. I have always loved the traditions that Auburn has continued for so many years.

How did you first get involved with Impact?

I first began volunteering with IMPACT my freshman year as a pledge. I immediately fell in love with service, so I continued volunteering through the remainder of my freshman year.

What is new this year for Impact?

This year, IMPACT has two new projects: Jason Dufner Foundation and iK9. These two projects make 17 total projects. IMPACT has also increased the number of project coordinators from 55 to 70. Additionally, IMPACT will have its first T-shirt sale, so volunteers will have the opportunity to purchase a T-shirt.

What is your favorite memory you’ve made with Impact?

A favorite memory I have made has definitely been at one of our special projects, Azalea Prom. Every year we go out to the Azalea Retirement Home and host a prom with the elderly folks over there. It is a great time to learn about some of their life experiences, but, more importantly, we get the chance to put a smile on their faces and that experience is always second to none.

Which project is your favorite that the organization works for?

I would say my favorite project is Storybook Farm. I love how much one volunteer can contribute there and how easily it is to see the impact one person can have. Storybook Farm does such great things for children and being a part of that is something special.

Where is your favorite place to eat in Auburn?

Pannie-George’s

What will you take away from your time at Auburn?

I will take away the importance of service from my time at Auburn. Through IMPACT and my experience as a Catholic, I have learned that serving others in our community is one way we can serve God. I am humbled by the opportunities I have been given and will carry the same mindset going forward in my life.
