Awards and Scholarships
The Auburn University Chapter of The Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi presents awards to students who have attained academic excellence. Awards presented by the chapter during the Fall Semester each year are as follows:
Outstanding Freshman Student Award
The freshman achieving the highest scholastic record in each academic college or school is selected at the Fall Semester Business Meeting and recognized at the Fall Semester Initiation and Awards Ceremony. Students are selected from those completing a minimum of 30 semester hours during the previous Fall and Spring Semesters and/or Summer Term. All academic work must have been done at Auburn University.
Outstanding Sophomore Man and Woman Student Award
The sophomore man and woman attaining the highest scholastic record on a University-wide basis is selected at the Fall Semester Business Meeting and recognized at the Fall Semester Initiation and Awards Ceremony. Students are selected from those completing a minimum of 60 semester hours either during the previous Fall and Spring Semesters and/or Summer Term. All academic work must have been done at Auburn University.
Outstanding First Professional Year Student Award
The first year professional student achieving the highest scholastic record in each academic college or school is selected at the Fall Semester Business Meeting and recognized at the Fall Semester Initiation and Awards Ceremony. Students are selected from those completing a minimum of 30 semester hours either during the previous Fall and Spring Semesters and/or Summer Term. All academic work must have been done at Auburn University.
Awards presented by the chapter during the Spring Semester each year are as follows:
Susan Stacy Entrenkin Yates Award
Presented annually to outstanding junior students at Auburn University. These awards are named in memory of the mother of Mr. S. Blake Yates, a long-time member of the Auburn University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi. Criteria include scholarship, activities, and character. The nominated student must have completed a minimum of 61 credit hours by the end of Fall Semester of the academic year of nomination and have a minimum 3.699 GPA.
Synopsis of Award
Phi Kappa Phi/Current-Garcia Award in Humanities
This award is presented annually to the outstanding senior student in Humanities at Auburn University with a minimum 3.699 GPA. Humanities is interpreted as including English, Foreign Languages, History, Philosophy, Music, Drama, and Visual (but not Communications) Arts. Criteria for the award are scholarship, activities, and character. Graduates for the previous Summer term, Fall and Spring Semesters are eligible. Two letters of recommendation by faculty members who have taught the student must accompany the nomination.
Phi Kappa Phi Most Outstanding Senior Scholar Award
Presented annually to the most outstanding senior student at Auburn University. Criteria include scholarship, activities, character, and a minimum 3.699 GPA. Graduates for the previous Summer Semester, Fall Semester, and current Spring Semester are eligible for the award.
